We take out the nest, droppings, and debris, sanitize the flue, and install a cap sized to the tile with the correct mesh, because an uncapped flue will simply be occupied again by spring. Chimney swifts are federally protected migratory birds and nest in chimneys from roughly March through August; where we find them, we leave the nest undisturbed until the young have fledged and schedule the exclusion for afterward — that is both the law and the only humane way to handle it. Cost depends on how far down the nest sits and how much cleanup follows.
