Certifications, Licensing, and Insurance

The credentials behind the work

The fireplace and chimney trade is, in Texas, one of the more lightly regulated of the building trades. There is no statewide chimney sweep license, no statewide fireplace contractor license, and no requirement for a contractor working on a residential fireplace to hold any specific certification. The result is a practice in which the standard of work is set by the contractor, not by the state.

We hold our credentials because we believe the work warrants them. The list below is current as of May 2026.

Industry certifications

CSIA β€” Chimney Safety Institute of America

Certified Master Sweep. The CSIA is the dominant industry certification body for chimney professionals in the United States. Master Sweep status requires passing a comprehensive certification exam, demonstrating field experience, and committing to ongoing continuing education. Our lead inspector and senior technicians hold current CSIA certification.

CSIA certification is the credential most Park Cities and Preston Hollow homeowners’ insurance carriers reference when reviewing claim documentation on chimney work.

NCSG β€” National Chimney Sweep Guild

Member in good standing. NCSG membership is a professional affiliation that requires adherence to the Guild’s code of ethics and ongoing professional development. The NCSG is the trade organization for chimney professionals; membership signals participation in the trade’s continuing-education ecosystem.

F.I.R.E. β€” Fireplace, Investigation, Research & Education

F.I.R.E. Certified. F.I.R.E. is a forensic-investigation-grade certification for fireplace and chimney professionals, with particular emphasis on cause-and-origin investigation, code compliance, and inspection methodology. F.I.R.E. certification is the credential most relevant to Level 2 inspection">Level 2 inspection work and to the photo-documented reports we produce at project close.

Texas state and local licensing

Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation

We hold the relevant Texas trade licenses applicable to the gas, mechanical, and electrical work that fireplace conversion projects require. Specific license numbers are provided on request and on every signed contract.

Town of Highland Park β€” Building Department

Permitting and inspection are handled through the Town of Highland Park Building Department at 4700 Drexel Drive. We pull permits in-house for all work in the Town that requires them and coordinate inspection scheduling with the Town directly.

City of University Park β€” Building Department

Permitting and inspection for University Park projects are handled through the City of University Park’s Department of Public Works. We pull permits in-house and coordinate inspection scheduling with the City directly.

City of Dallas β€” Building Inspection Division

Permits for Preston Hollow, Bluffview, Lakewood, Devonshire, Volk Estates (where applicable), and other Dallas-incorporated neighborhoods are handled through the City of Dallas. We pull permits in-house.

Insurance coverage

We carry comprehensive general liability and workers’ compensation coverage at limits appropriate to the kind of work we do in homes of the values we work in. Certificates of insurance are provided to clients on request and are issued automatically to interior designers, architects, and general contractors who specify us into their projects.

General liability: Coverage limits at industry standard for premium residential contracting. Workers’ compensation: Full coverage for all in-house employees and W-2 staff. Auto liability: Commercial auto policy covering all company vehicles and trailers. Tools and equipment: Coverage for in-house tools, fabrication equipment, and customer property.

Coverage details, certificate of insurance, and additional-insured endorsements are available on request β€” typically processed within one business day for active project bidding.

Better Business Bureau

We are accredited by the Better Business Bureau of North Texas with an A+ rating. BBB accreditation requires demonstrated business practice, complaint resolution history, and ongoing adherence to BBB standards. Our BBB profile is current and includes the project history and review record the bureau maintains.

Continuing education

The trade is not static. Code changes, material innovation, and inspection methodology evolution all require ongoing study. Our team participates in CSIA continuing education, NCSG annual conferences, F.I.R.E. forensic-methodology training, and manufacturer-specific certification programs for the firebox systems we install. The practice budgets for continuing education as a line item, not as an afterthought.

What this means for a client

Three practical things follow from the credential set.

Documentation that holds up. Inspection reports produced by a CSIA Certified Master Sweep with F.I.R.E. credentials are accepted by every major Texas homeowners’ insurance carrier we have worked with, by every mortgage refinance underwriter, and by real-estate transaction inspectors and buyers’ counsel. Code-correct installation. A gas conversion done by a licensed contractor working under proper permit is, on resale, an asset. The same conversion done off-permit by an unlicensed contractor is a liability that buyers and insurers will surface. Insurance and warranty integrity. Our work is covered by our liability and workers’ comp policies, and our installations carry manufacturer warranties that require licensed-contractor installation to remain in force. Both depend on the credentials being current and verifiable.

Verification

Every credential listed above is publicly verifiable. CSIA certification can be verified at csia.org. NCSG membership can be verified at ncsg.org. F.I.R.E. certification can be verified through the F.I.R.E. organization. Texas state licenses are searchable on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation website. BBB accreditation is searchable at bbb.org.

We provide license numbers, certification numbers, and certificate-of-insurance documentation on every signed contract.
