The Challenge
Years of use had taken the firebox firebrick down to crumbling — large cracks, missing pieces, and clay separating from the back wall. The chimney itself was sound, but the firebox was unsafe to use.
Our Approach
- Removed all damaged firebrick and refractory mortar
- Inspected the smoke chamber and damper from inside the firebox
- Rebuilt the firebox floor and walls with new firebrick
- Re-parged the smoke chamber with refractory mortar
- Performed a smoke test to confirm the rebuild drafted properly
The Result
The firebox is structurally sound and safe to burn in again. The homeowners had their first fire in years a week later.
