What is HeatShield?
HeatShield is a proprietary cerfractory chimney repair system manufactured by Saver Systems that addresses cracked or deteriorated clay flue tile through three application methods: Joint Repair, CeCure Sleeve Relining, and Resurfacing. The system carries UL 1777 listing when applied per the manufacturer’s installation procedure, and it is widely used to restore aging masonry flues without full tile removal.
How it works
For Joint Repair, technicians inject a cerfractory slurry into compromised mortar joints between flue tiles using a specialized tool, sealing gaps that were leaking combustion gases. CeCure Sleeve Relining applies a thicker layer over the entire interior surface using a foam applicator pulled through the flue, creating a new continuous bore. Resurfacing combines elements of both for moderate damage.
HeatShield is most useful when full stainless reline is impractical or when the homeowner wants to preserve the original flue dimensions. It restores draft characteristics, seals against gas leakage, and adds modest insulation value. Sweeps document existing tile condition with a video scan during a CSIA Level 2 inspection">Level 2 inspection, and the choice between HeatShield and stainless reline depends on damage severity, appliance type, and customer budget.
DFW context
DFW homes with chimneys built between 1955 and 1990 often have hairline-cracked flue tiles from documented or undocumented chimney fires, but the tiles remain dimensionally stable. HeatShield Joint Repair is a cost-effective remediation in those scenarios, restoring code compliance without the capital cost of a full stainless reline. TSE technicians are factory-trained on HeatShield application and document each treatment with before-and-after video.
